Oh My.. I Need Help!
Ok.. I have a 460 w/9.7 to pistons, comp cam .505/.505 210/218 extreme 4x4 cam, MSD Probillet Dist., HV pump,
I was running the engine in today, I primed the pump, filled everything up.. and fired it up..
It fired up after a few minutes.. I brought it up to 2000 rpm
to keep the cam wet w/oil..
The oil pressure read 70psi and the water temp was @ 160 with the radiator drain open and garden hose into radiator..
Well it died after 20 minutes.. still turned over.. but
nothing... come to find out ... distrubter stopped turing.. and upon removing dist. the cast gear was JUNK!
What happened???? Engine was idling just fine @ 2000 rpm (sounded good too 8>)
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Not sure if this will help.....
>>MSD Probillet Dist<<
Some cams require the distributor gear to be bronze. The hardness of the material on the cam is the problem,it will keep it from distroying it self.

Take a 1/4" drive socket with a long extension that will
fit the shaft of the oil pump and see if you can turn the
pump, the oil pump may have locked up. I also read on one
of these message boards where a guy put in a high pressure
high flow oil pump and it was too much for the distributor gear to handle.

Ok, Thanks for all the Info... Talked with MSD, Compcams, and my engine builder today, here is a summary of what they said...
MSD: Check dist. end play (less than 0.0018" is good)
Check Gear install lenght (3.996-4.005)
CompCams: Check cam end play (0.005"-0.007")
Make sure a new thrust plate is/was used (new was used)
Engine Builder: Thinks that either the pump shaft, or dist. is
causing the problem. Meaning if shaft were too
long it would put pressure on the pump, making
more strain on the gear. So he wants me to grind
the rest of the teeth of the Dist. gear, re-
install the dist. and tighten down hold down
bolt. Then check to see if I can turn the pump
by rotation the ROTOR.
Well unfortunately truck is @ parents.... and I won't be able to
check it until this weekend.. but it all makes sense to me..
MSD uses Stock for Cast Steel gears on all of their dist's, and Both MSD and Compcam tech lines were very friendly!!!
I will keep you all posted...
