Widen/Stretch Factory Wheels

Anybody ever cut and welded a filler ring into factory weels to make them wider? I have '64 with the stock steel wheels and dog dish hub caps. I really like the look of the dog dish hub caps and think the wider/deeper look of the modified steel wheels would look really cool.

Are there any companies who offer this service?

Are there any aftermarket wheels that are compatible with the dog dish hub caps?

They will custom make what you want. I'm considering the rallys for mine.

ago! It was a local shop but I had thought a bout some of the companys
that are listed above! Here's a link to a thread, check it out! Also theres a
post about making wheels at your shop.

I checked with Wheel Vintiques about a year or so age and sthey wanted over $100 a wheel to widen them. Although I also like the standard wheel, I have opted to go with an after market whee. Unfortunately, it is hard to find many styles with the standard bolt pattern.

Little off subject, but back in the day(sorry junior) when rims were riveted together, we used to knock the rivets out and turn the center around to make a deep dish looking wheel and they looked real cool with the baby moons. We called them reversed rims.

I am guessing that would throw the offset off right? That would increase the track width wouldn't it? One would have to be careful that it wouldn't casue the tires to hit the fender lip.

Hopefully the original poster has gotten what he needed already. I don't want to highjack his thread. I was just looking for stock wheels, stock width, everything. Mine had split rims and I replaced them with newer stock wheels for the time being. However, I would like to get back to some wheels with the nubs on the inside for my original hubcaps. I have an F250 (8 lug) so they aren't real easy to come by......

Yeah it made a wider track and no it wasn't a problem on 54 Merc and 56 Vicky

Many Ford station wagons and possibly Rancheros had reversed rims from the factory. One would suppose that the increased track spread the weight out better for more stability.
