Vehicles with DOOe, DOVE, D2OE heads???

I am planning on hitting some wrecking yards in Montana and North Dakota in search of some heads to use in my '78 F150 w/460. I have D3VE heads now on a D1TE block I believe?? I am wondering on what years and makes of Ford vehicles could I have the best chance of finding some badass heads? I know the late 60's to early 70's are my best shot, just wanting to make sure. Thanks all...

chances of finding the DOOE heads in a wrecking yard will be pretty slim. these are the cobra jet heads and only came on the 429 cobra/super cobra jet engines. only offered in 1970 and 1971 (maybe 72 but i don't think so) in the mustang and torino line (also in the rancheros), so finding a set in a wrecking yard will be pretty slim.

the D2OE heads were for the police inteceptor engines that came in 429 and 460 configuration but not sure if the 460's got these heads or just the plain D3 heads. look for ex-police cars or federal/state cars in the 72 - 76 range for potential.

the DOVE is the most common and probably the easiest heads to find. also look for the C8VE and C9VE heads as they are virtually the same head as the DOVE head. both the regular 429 (called thunderjets) and the 460's from 68 - 71 used these heads. offered in Lincolns, Thunderbirds, Torinos, Ranchero's, LTD's, Galaxies (and probably a few more i can't think of at this time) as base engines in a lot of cases, these heads will be the easiest to find. look for 71 or older cars. stay away from the D2VE heads, as even in low compression factory cars, they were very prone to detonation.

good hunting.

Thank you! Thank You! In my few previous searches for other parts it seems as if the 70's Ford trucks have been picked through, although I can find glass and A/C components galor still. I have never looked for engine stuff. My 460 now has D3VE heads, not bad but I would be estatic if I can find some D00E heads! I may have a fairly decent shot at finding some D2OE's laying around as the police cars up here usually went to some municipality to finish out their career. Thanks for the info, great help!
