K&N FIPK could be better

There is still 2' of hose between the K&N FIPK and the throttle body. I just installed a FIPK in my truck and was suprised that they couldn't design an air filter that could bolt right on the throttle body. Is there some reason beside mechanical that the air filter can't be closer to the intake?

I would guess that ..Keeping the air cleaner up towards the front keeps it near the coolest air possible.
In some cases hood clearance is an issue.
