I prefer the term "experienced" as in "been there, done that". I have a 35 year old step-son I helped raise - I told him when he left home that if he couldn't consider me a friend than to just stay away. We are both adults and good friends, even though he drives a new GM truck.

Best of all, I am not his father, adviser, or authority figure - we are just friends, and he teaches me things sometimes.

I've not had any luck finding good beef ribs. They really scrape meat off of them these days, and I haven't found a good butcher around here. Shiners do not make good eating. Everything seems to be cryopacked from a meat packer somewhere in Iowa. I have been giving some thought to buying uncut flanken ribs and cooking them up whole (instead of that diagonal thin cut you usually find). That would be a bronto rib, to be sure. And I'm not ready to do brisket. I keep trying, but it is my nemesis. I just can't seem to get it right.

Let's not plan on me hauling around my smoker this time. It takes a fair amount of planning anyway. Burgers work for me.

It wouldn't be fun if it were easy, but does it have to be this much fun?
I don't know when I realized that I had grown up, but I'm not happy about it.

Y'know Chris, most of us here aren't quite ready for the retirement home just yet... We can sit around and discuss all sorts of topics relevant to a younger crowd. I work with a 19-year old, a 21-year old and a 26-year-old and we never seem to have a shortage of things to talk about. If you think you could stand to be cooped up in the same vehicle with a guy old enough to be your dad, I could swing by and pick you up on my way down as I'll be coming down I-5 and switching to 99 at Sac, Davis isn't too far out of my way...(or will you be in Roseville? I'm a little foggy on where you actually live...)

Fred, our Australian Admin, managed to stand me for the better part of two days while I showed him around SF and he's only 23...

Chet, knock it off...you're making me drool all over my keyboard...

Well, our topics of conversation usually center around trucks and things automotive. We rarely talk about whether or not our Depends fit comfortably and what the best dosage of Geritol is...

Dan, are you bringing a guitar? I know a few people sang and played after the Micke Grove meet. If you beg enough, I'll bring my tuba.

Tuba! Oh, sorry guys...something just came up and I can't make it...

I suppose I could be coerced into bringing along a couple of stringed things...
