I have intermittant missfireing when i plug in the scanner it says (detected #2 cyl misfire) the whole engine shakes i loose power then i continue driving and it clears up5 minutes later it happens all over again. i replaced the plugs, wires, both coil packs and reseated and checked all connectors under the hood.

In that case, maybe it is a bad injector.
I dont have a shop manual for a 98, but the only thing mentioned in the shop manual for my 87 2.3 is replacing the injector O rings if needed.
Some highlights on the 87
Open fuel tank cap & release fuel pressure at the schrader valve.
Remove 2 fuel supply manifold retaining bolts
Carefully disengage manifold & injectors from engine and remove manifold & injectors
Grasp injector & pull up while gently rocking injector from side to side.
Inspect injector O rings (2 per injector) replace as needed.
Instalation of new injectors:
Lubricate injector O-rings with light grade oil
Install injector into fuel supply manifold. Use a light twisting, pushing motion to install them.
Dont know if that will help on your 2.5, but thats how it's done on an 87 2.3 liter.
Good luck with it.

Thanks i found the problem this morning. on the way to work today the problem happened again so i pulled over and started to pull each plug wire off and when i pulled off #2 cyl there was no change but i had a great spark. i shut off the truck checked the plugs on that cylender and they look like new (Because they are) i started it again the engine was still shacking i reached under and started unpluging the fuel injectors one at a time every one made the engine stumble even worse except #2 cyl. i shut off the motor and i checked across the 2 electrical pins on the #2 injector with my multi meter and had Zero Ohms, wide open. when i check the others i have 4.7 ohms. so i have to say that is it.

Ok i finnished it, the truck runs great again. yup i had to remove the air chamber or tunnel or plenmium what ever it is called once that was done i removed the injector plugs and 2 bolts that hold down the fuel rail and out they came. all in all the whole job took about 1 hour the hardest part was finding an auto parts store that had them. i went to Pepboys they do not stock them, AID auto they do not stock them, Auto barn seme thing. struss stores no good. NAPA not in stock. Finally i looked on line at AutoZone and they tell you if they stock them and did but only 1 so i had to drive to 4 AutoZones to buy all 4 but i got them and job done.
THANKS 87 XLT for all your help.
