Maybe the amount of people who know of both will be small and probably should know the difference between the two.
Just a thought, still kind of on topic.

Still on topic, and you are correct. That whole "The Boss is Back" has thrown everyone off. Still ford is keeping the New motor Hush Hush and for all we know is that "BOSS" nickname for the new motor could have been just something that we here on the internet gave the motor.

The "Boss" is a 6.2l Naturally aspirated V8... unrelated to the 5.4l

The 6.2 is a wisp of smoke in a strong breeze. Until I see it. It don't exist. I believe that Ford is planning to make the engine...I just believe plans are going to change. All the magazines in the world can't predict how the world is going to change in the next three years. If you think three dollars a gallon is high, Wait untill you see six dollars a gallon after we bomb the hell out of Iran...If they do make a 6.2...They will be parked in peoples yards. I think Ford will change its focus to Hybrid Pickup trucks with Hydraulic assist take off....The focus in the future will be high milage...Now the Diesel might just be the ticket....Something with 250 horses and 400 pounds of torque. A six speed manual tranny....Lighten the truck up a bit....Maybe that is a more realistic future F-150?

They have that now, it's called tha Cammer engine and is available from FRPP. It also comes in the factory road race Mustangs. It's a 5.0 4V engine.http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...tKeyField=8022 It's 400hp with 400 lb/ft of torque.
The new BOSS 302 block is like the original but stronger. It too has 4 bolt mains and screw in freeze plugs. http://www.fordracingparts.com/jumppages/boss.asp

I've heard of the engine. It's 13,999 dollars and it was developed for racing. It is hand built and blueprinted...it's not ment for general consumption. If it was put in a streetable car they would tame the camshafts down a bit and it would be subject to the same emission controls that you have on a 4.6 or a 5.4...I bet it don't develop 400 horse power after that! I know it won't. So relax, take it easy!

The cammer is based off the mod series, but if we were to get a 5.0 mod in the mustang I believe it would be totally different for emissions purposes and probably use the SOHC 3v setup to make around 350hp. Ford is focusing on MPG improvements with the twinforce technology that will slowly be deployed over the next few years. The use of direct injection and twin turbos is what ford is calling twinforce. Stay out of the boost and get all the mpg you want, step on the skinny pedal and have all the power you want. Best of both worlds.
Yes, Ford did start to manufacture the original boss again.. but the "new boss" will be nothing like it. The new boss will be similar in design to the mod series but with larger bore spacing to allow for increased displacement. The 6.2 is part of the new line of boss engines that will begin to come out to replace the mod series.
It is possible that the engine could get canned if there is a strong increase in fuel prices between now and the end of '09/early '10, but this far along in development I highly doubt that would happen. The new f150 will first get either a 3.5 or 3.7 twinforce, then diesel, then boss. Its possible that a twinforce 6.2 will make it in '11/'12... but that is a long way off. It's going to be an interesting couple of years for Ford fans.
edit: The diesel engine is going to be a 4.4v8 and have around 300-330hp. A 6.7l "scorpion" diesel will also replace the 6.4 in a couple of years in the bigger trucks. It is also possible a twinforce 6.2 will be used as a cheaper alternative for getting big loads moving, but that is just speculation.
