Loose connectors are the most common cause of excess heat in a switch.

If it's a converted van, sometimes they break into connections and like rclarke says, it causes heat. My current 89 had a hot connection just behind the control panel. I don't think it was the converters fault because its all Ford. Yet it looks like the wires were cut and then a barrel crimp connector was used to reconnect them. Why a converter or Ford did this is beyond me. The control panel says Ford and Thunderbird even though it's an E-150. It's looks just like my other 89 Ford I had and also like my 88 RV had.

Maybe I have a one-of-a-kind Ford Thunderbird Van!
