Shelf life, Bio versus Petro

Diesel fuel, among other things is used for standby generators...

I work for the D.C. area mass transit system. As such, we have quite a few remote radio transmitter towers as well as central operations control, all with massive standby generators powered by Cummins or Detroit Diesel...

The tanks are usually rated at 1000+gallons.

I know we're not consuming that fuel at all times, and the tank logs say they're refilled at various times, one went for four years without being refilled.

Would biodiesel sit for that long and still be useful? Would petrodiesel even last that long?

How could I make it last that long?

BioDiesel would not last that long.

PetroDiesel at that age would be very suspect and should have an algaecide added.

If above ground they would gain alge in about 30-60 days below ground Unknown. I store my B5 and B20 about 6 months underground before being totally used but it has an algicide added by the company who delivers fuel.

Question BIO Shelf life question??

Hi all, Dave here from the 7.3 forum. I live in Charleston SC and we finally got a single source for BIO and it is B100. It is $3.00 per gallon in small quantities and the said I can get it for $2.85 in quantity. He offered me a deal and I am not sure wheather to accept it or not. He will supply the 275 gallon drum, deliver it, fill it up and keep me supplied with delivery service for $2.85 a gallon, and if the price drops, I still get the new quantity discount. I know I would use it up but it may be a few months, my question here would be if anyone knows what the shelf life is on BIO? Thanks in advance for any constructive criticizm I may deserve and keep the suggestions coming..Dave
