Preventing downshift?

Now that my truck is broke in I've been engaging in a bit of spirited driving around town.

The truck gets up and moves quickly, but sometimes I feel it downshifts to a lower gear (1st?) needlessly, and the lag of downshifting and then re-upshifting costs me time. The truck has plenty of torque to pull through 2nd gear without a downshift.

This happens when I'm pulling out from a stop, maybe turning onto a straight. I get up to 10 or 15MPH in the process and once I straighten it out I whack the throttle on, which drops the transmission down a gear. I can't find a way to throttle up slow enough to prevent the shift unless I drive like grandma.

Would a tuner chip allow me to adjust how sensitive this is? Or is this behavior desirable? Or maybe I need a shift kit? I also think it holds each gear too long under WOT. Can this be adjusted with a tuner chip?

Just wondering, as usual.
