What is it?

Hi I have a 1988 f150 302 auto my problem is the other day while going to work my truck died sududenly while I was going 75 mph I had it towed to a shop and they told me that my eec relay bad and that the fuel pump relay was bad okay told them to fix it they did I drive home after get home the truck wont shut off so i pop the hood i was checking the work they did and noticed a relay that was hot and it was new I pulled it and it shuts off if turn the key the truck will start and run without this relay what is this relay is it the eec relay what does this relay do. need help the people that did the say they did nothing wrong and i can not figure it out

need location of the relay
only about 20 at various locations

driver side right behind air cleaner inside a black cover that is held on with 2 bolts you have to un clip it from the cover in order for it to come out. but what does the eec reley do?

The green one is the fuel pump relay and the brown one is the EEC relay. The EEC relay supplies power to the engine computer, injectors and the ignition coil when the key is turned to the 'run' position. The fuel pump relay is controlled by the engine computer to activate/deactivate the fuel pump. This is so that the pump does not run continually with the engine turned off. If everything works without the relay in place, there are some wires crossed up somewhere allowing power to reach places the relay should have control over.

okay so do I need this relay right now I took it out and left it out runs great without it sounds like I have electrical problems what do you think? I will add it to the list!

There's something completing the circuit at some point, but I couldn't begin to guess where. If it works without the relay even in the socket, it sounds like the high current wires are jumpered somewhere.
