JASPER engines...Has any had any experiences with a Jasper engine in the past couple years?

I am thinking about an RV 460 engine from Jasper. Are there any other remanufacture engines you recommend or suggest?

Does Jasper (and others) use all new parts in rebuild or do they 'reuse' parts if they are OK? Since I am not an engine person, what should I be looking for? Is it OK to reuse old parts in some areas? Should I be concerned if they redo (not new) the crank, valve train area or cam?

I am really concerned about not knowing the history of the old block and parts?

Has anyone used a new or reman Ford engine from their factory?

Jasper wants about $2,300.00 for a RV 460. They appear to have
a good warranty (I know its part of the cost) but has anyone ever had to use their warranty. How was it?

Really concerned........any assistance will be helpful.

Thanks,

Rick

I don't know for sure about jasper myself but on a info price search etc. I did searching for an engine they sure were impressive in comparison to others. That price does not seem like a bad deal at all, and I would be almost certain their parts are remaned within a certain spec and with the warranty you should be alright. Depending on what you are doing I would like to make a suggestion or two. If you are putting this in a daily driver then I would go with this as it will give you a little something to fall on in case something goes wrong (warranty) but it will be a pain if something goes wrong no matter what. Check around your local racing shop engine builders etc. if you want just a rebuilt engine they should be able to help you out and save you some money in the long run. If you go this route watch out if you tell these guys you want something that will kick everyones butt then you will be happy until you have to fill the gas tank everyday. These fellows consider streetable as anything that doesn't overheat too much while driving around not how much fuel it consumes. The need for speed wears thin when reality and gas prices hit. Hp and fuel economy are words not usually in the same sentence. Something to keep in mind a good iginition system and accessories depending on what you need such as radiator, belts, distributor, water pump, headers, these things add up faster than you can imagine. Check out local classified/advertisers they usually have a shop or two that will advertise motors pretty often if you see there name pop up freguently then they probably do a decent job. I cannot remember if Beck racing do fords but I am sure they do they also had some impressive motor and prices check them out (I was looking for a chevy motor at the time). I hope everything works out good luck

You'll have to take this info with a grain of salt because it is anecdotal in nature and it has been a while but it might still be helpful. When I was in school they bought a Jasper 350 long block for the dyno lab to replace the one that gave up when I was doing some testing. When the first engine came in and we started moving parts from the old engine over to it we found that it had been dropped or something and part of the mounting pad for the oil pump was broken off of the block. They eventually got another long block from Jasper and I think that they had problems with that relatively soon thereafter. Of course, being a test motor for the dyno, it certainly had a hard life. I don't know, Jasper might be fine but, that experience made me skeptical.

AutOZone has Rebuilt engines. The Price the wanted for my 77/460 was just over $1000. You must be talking about $2300 installed.

If nothing is wrond, and your block is still STD, you can overhaul it yourself, for less than $500.

Rick, 2300 is alot, is that an installed price or just the reman engine. Jasper does okay work but seems very overpriced to me. I work for a local rebuilder and compared jasper prices to ours and jasper is usually 1000$ for the same engine. DF
