Edelbrock Performer 5.0 EFI truck manifold

I have a 1995 F150 2wd, ext.cab, 5.0 auto with 3.55LS rear end. I’m looking to get some more power and torque out of it, but still keep it CA smog legal. I notice Summit sell the “Edelbrock Performer 5.0 EFI truck manifold” for $549 and claims it adds an extra 37 HP to your top end. Has anyone out there done this with their 302’s? If so was it worth the money?

> >

Even after replacing the exhaust and Air cleaner housing to a more free flowing system, the truck is still a little wimpy for me. I realize the 302 is not a stroker so I’m not sure if I should put any money into a 5.0 or just upgrade to a 351.

The 5.0L forum will probably have users with that setup.

Waste of money, the factory intake flows more than enough air for a 302. The only way to boost low rpm TQ on a 302 is with long tube headers. The next best thing(meaning biggest power boost and most cost effective) you can do for more power is upgrade the cam. The Comp Cams 35-349-8 is a healthy step up from the factory roller cam.

You can buy a Lightning 351 engine on ebay for 2500 or a little more, that includes shiping. The engine usually have all the stuff, and have under 100000 miles on them.

It isn't bragging if you can back it up!

Does not play well with others (cause most people have a problem with losing)

It not the 5.0L version but I do have the 5.8L Edelbrock Performer EFI intake and it gives a noticeable power gains in the lower RPM range. It looks great, provides better access to the passenger side area under the intake. I don't have the sources to back it up but I've heard the factory intakes have a tendency to starve the front intakes of air. If you have money burning a hole in your pocket it may be worth it. However, the 5.0L version has been discontinued to my knowledge and since you have a 5.0L anyways Mustang mods are the way to go. If your truck is mass airflow thats a big plus. If its speed density you are in a hole like myself and the conversion to mass airflow will give the biggest improvements.

Plus, with my K&N generation II air intake installed with the Edelbrock intake I am running on the lean side and increased wind noise at low rpms is very noticeable. The intake sit higher up than the stock but it won't (at least for me) create any hood clearance problems.
