Sport Mirrors
Has anyone bought the sport mirrors from DC? Part # C7TZ-17696-M
I was wondering about the quality. I know that DC has very good stuff. Also, in the picture in the catalog, it doesn't appear that there are screws on the back of the mirror to tighten the ball and socket. I've seen some mirrors that tend to move out of adjustment from the wind at high speeds.

Maybe ask DC of they do it themselves or they buy them from someone to sell.
Coat the ball with tree sap then.

I'm repainting my entire truck and I'm considering putting the sport mirrors on in place of the west coast ones that are on there now.

Y'all are actually refering to the passenger car style mirror that attached to the door with two screws. There were two styles originally and were standard equipment on all 1967/79 F100/350's.
The left mirror (the right was an option), while standard equipment was not installed at the factory, but was sent along with the truck. All mirrors were (and mostly still are) installed by the dealer. Not installing the mirrors enabled dealers to install other types of mirrors, without having to fill the holes left by the standard mirror.
The mirrors are IDENTICAL to what the passenger cars used 1967/72.
The two styles:
Unhooded mirror head = C7TZ-17682-L replaced by C7AZ-17696-F (see below).
Hooded mirror head = C8AZ-17682-B
The part number DC is selling: C7TZ-17696-M is an INCORRECT PART NUMBER, as it originally was the RIGHT side optional mirror. (Originally the mirrors were right/left specific-the bases were canted). The correct original part number was: C7TZ-17682-L and it was replaced in 1973 by >> D3TZ-17682-L and then replaced again in the 1980's by C7AZ-17696-F
These mirrors piled up in dealers parts departments, because few wanted them...many were tossed out. Have an old dealer in your area? There may still be some lying around.
Note: Standard mirror = The new Federal Safety Regs that took effect on 1/1/1966 required all cars to have a left side mirror, lap seat belts, heaters and back up lamps. Excepting heaters, which were made standard on 1966 F100/350's, the F100/350's, Bronco's and Econolines didn't require the left side mirror, lap belts and backup lights till the 1967 models were introduced.
