Both of you should check for exhaust leaks at the manifold - broken studs, etc.

BTW, jayster - welcome to FTE!

There has been at least one or two reports of cracked flexplates (auto tranny flywheel).

Or the torque converter is coming loose from the flexplate.

MXZX1100cc, you might have the piston slap that was prevalent on the '99's and maybe 2000's.

If you are looking at the flywheel make sure the tranny inspection cover isn't clanging and making a tinny rattle. Seal it good with a bead of silicone to prevent the rattle.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Piston slap was NEVER an issue on Ford modular motors. Sounds like crap, yes.

Going to break? Nope.

Some people tried different brands of oil, or synthetics, and it quieted down. You might want to try that just to ease your worries

Lots of people reported very high miles, with the slapping going on all it's life, so I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Of course, if it's getting louder over time, that's not a good thing.
