Finally fixed!!! What I thought was flutter turned out to be the inspection plate in front of the transmission. I followed some of the different techniques posted by others and it worked. On my application I used 3m double faced tape, on the back side of the plate. The double faced tape has a nice thin foam cushion that seem to work really well. Only stick it to the plate not the transmission housing. Replace the plate and 2 bolts and you are on the way..... Thanks Again!! Steve

Its the small sheetmetal cover bolted onto the front of the transmission.(Between the engine and transmission) You remove the two bolts and pull the inspection plate/dust cover off. Some people put a crease in it to stiffen it up, some tape it. I made a new one out of a piece of 1/8" aluminum. It doesn't make any noise anymore. You don't have to worry about any fluid coming out when you take the plate off, its just for inspection and dust cover duty. You can drive the truck with it off for a little to see if the noise is still there.

Thanks dkf, I will give her a try. I thought it may have been the dreaded sign of another plug blowing out (3 so far with 2 blowing from the same spot). For some reason the flutter sound gives the impression it is coming from the passenger side of the engine, does that sound like it could be the inspection plate?

Flutter is usually heard right around the transmission hump. Flutter is not that loud but a loose inspection plate or other heat shield can be down right annoying. The inspection plate is the first place I would look.
If you are running the stock Y-pipe I highly doubt you are getting any flutter.

Yes, I am running the stock Y-pipe. The "flutter" sound happens when I accelerate from a stop. Usually right before the tranny shifts is it's worst. Once I hit cruising speed I do not hear it. Like I said, to me it sounds like it is coming from the passenger side kind of under the dash/floorboard area. It also feels like the engine is bogging down as it happens but that could just be in my head.

[QUOTE=buckeyejh]I also have what sounds like an exhaust flutter/leak on my 2000 V10 Excursion. Can you provide a picture of what to look for so that I may try the same fix? Thanks for your help.
Since you have a 2000, you might have the older "ram's horn style" y-pipe. If you do, that is probably your cause of flutter.

I didn't even give that a thought.
