My truck came with a 6cyl and 3on the tree..I changed it to a 427 with a toploader 4-spd.The hurst shifter bolts to the tailshaft on the top loader..It puts the shifter back close to the bench seat..with the seat all the way back its fine for me..[long legs] but for my wife and daughter have trouble reaching the peddles..does any one make a shifter that bolts more on the side of the transmission..or whatever to move the shifter up some..I can put in a short shifter and bucket seats but i like my wife to sit with me and suggle on those rod runs.. ..If anyone has moved there shifter away from the bench seat I would like to know what they did...thanks bill c

 

toploaders should have two mounting points for the shifter on tail shaft back mount was for mustangs. other mount up closer was for fairlanes and others. hope this helps.

I went and scoured the junk yards for a seat with a cut out in that spot and finally found one in a 67 Buick Skylark G.S. took a little magic to get it mounted right but it is a good fit now. zrt
