351 cleveland swap

i was wondering will a 1973 351 cleveland bolt up to the stock c6 transmission in my 1987 F.150 2wd truck, it has a 351 windsor in it now but its shot, i know that 1s a small block and 1s a big block, but does anyone know if the one in the truck has the removable bell housing, i know i will haveto redo some mounts, how about the wiring situation, will mine work

351C has the same bell pattern as a 351W. It's the 351M that's bigger, and they weren't made in 1973(400 was though). The frame mounts should hold the 351C just fine. What bolts to the motor itself, may need to be figured out, because 351C's were never offered in trucks, but if a 351W motor mount bolts to a C, then you're good to go. Try the engine-swap forum. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum136/

forget what you know, it's incorrect. the 351W is a member of the 90* V family, and the 351C is a member of the 335 series family as suggested by the title of this forum section. they share some characteristics such as cylinder bore spacing, deck cooling hole and head bolt locations, bellhousing bolt patterns and engine mount bolt bosses.

the C will bolt in to your existing bell/trans using existing engine mounts. only glitch may be finding exhaust manifolds/headers to clear the frame, and some front accessory brackets are slightly different.

the exhuast shouldnt be a problem if youre looking to use stock manifolds for the C, theres more room under the hood of a truck than there ever was where a C was offered.
Just thought of this, get the manifolds (or order headers) from(for) a 351m that was in a 80-82 Fseries pickup. They will go onto the 351c and point you in the right direction. Then you just have to worry about the y pipe or run duals.

I once put a 1984 302 in my 73 mustang that had a 351C, if u have all the accessories for the cleveland u shouldn't have any problems. the only thing I did was modify the power steering pump hose. if u need new motor mounts just order the stock ones. Any one correct me if I'm wrong but, clevelands have noticeably a lot more power than windsors.

I have a 351C in my 79 f-150.It was pretty much a bolt in affair.I used stock exhaust manifolds and they fit great,I tried a set of 351M truck headers and they hang too low with the C because the M is taller.I also tried a set of 351C mustang headers and they were close but hit the crossmember that goes between the radius arm mounts.I didn't mess with it since I just had a stock engine but you could fab a new crossmember to gain clearance. The car headers didn't hit the crossmember real hard, just enough to keep them from bolting up.I have an AOD behind my C and am pleased with it.
