BD Electronic boost controller- anyone using one yet?

I was reading about BD Diesel's boost controller in a small article in the most recent issue of DP- is anybody using one of these? I'm curious as to how much additional boost is created, and if mileage is suffering as a result.....

This is how the description reads on their website :

Turbo Boost Builders

<SMALL>Whether you want to control turbo boost or simply want more of it, BD Diesel Performance has your solution! BD offers Turbo Boost Controls for most Dodge-Cummins, Ford Power Stroke and GM Duramax diesels.

BD's adjustable Waste Gate Kits keep the bypass valve closed, raising boost levels for increased performance. These kits include stainless steel brackets and a dash pot with a heavier spring and locking jam nut for precise boost pressure settings.

To get more performance out of your Dodge turbo, plug in BD's electronic Boost Builder, which increases fueling on electronically controlled engines, increasing exhaust volume and boost pressure - plus it prevents over boost trouble codes.

I know the advertisement does not fully explain when and why you would want to use a boost builder/fooler, hopefully I can clear this up a bit.

We offer a boost builder and an adjustable wastegate that do pretty much the same thing. These products will not physically create "more" boost" what they will do is allow you to use the extra boost your engine is capable of making with a chip or tuner. If you are running a chip or a tuner the engine will produce more boost that it was designed for. Usually the engine will defuel the motor or open the wastegate or both to regulate the pressure and prevent and over-boost situation. What the boost fooler does is "fool" the computer into seeing less than what is actually being generated. Same as the adjustable wastegates, if your wastegate was designed to open at 20PSI you will never make more than 20PSI of boost because the wastegate will open restricting it to 20PSI. Buy installing an adjustable wastegate you can keep the wastegate closed to what ever PSI you desire or the engine and turbo are capably of producing. One of the problems associated with this is the check engine light coming on because of an abnormal amount of boost so we include a MAP sensor connection to trick the computer and prevent the over boost code from coming on. On a stock truck with no performance upgrades they will not do anything, you need to be able to create more boost than the stock engine and turbo can generate.

Chip/Tuner/Injectors = More HP, More HP = More Boost, More Boost = better performance and fuel economy.

Most of the chips have this kind of thing built into them but not all of them. A good example where the boost fooler kits are commonly used are the tuners. The tuners reprogram the computer through the diagnostic port so there is no physical connection to the MAP Sensor to fool the computer and prevent it from de-fueling the motor or prevent it from opening the wastegate.

Hope this helps
