Can you still tow a trailer? How much capacity do you lose with a hitch extender?

I saw rig similar to yours in Missoula, MT 3 weeks ago. Can't remember if the truck was a F450 though, but it was an 08 SD.

Nice rig, but it looks like it would be a rolling brick wall. What kind of mileage do you get with the camper on it? I'm sure it's not a huge concern for you, I'm just curious.

I get 12 mpg with the crusie control set at 60 mph (2000 RPM) on the interstate, versus 14 mpg without the camper.

I have towed my helicopter on a trailer, total weight is about 4500 to 5000 lbs; without any problems and no hitch extender.

How much does that thing weigh? Do you have satellite radio? Does it get reception with the Bigfoot covering the antenna?

The camper, weighs a little more than 4000 lbs dry, 5000 lbs loaded.

The camper does not affect the reception of the satelite reciever (Sirius) in the truck.

Awesome...you have a helicopter...neat. I like the fact that Sirius works even with that camper on it.

Yes, the rear window does line with up a porthole on my Bigfoot; and also with most truck campers that I have seen. You can also get a seal between the rear window and the porthole that is like an inflatable childs intertube. But I don't use one since the gap is only about 2" on mine. Good luck Peter.

Jeez, I think I would take your truck back to the dealer. Something must be wrong, or you drive like a high school kid.

Nice rig 280fx! I was down at our local Bigfoot dealer when just the spec's were out on the 450 and they were licking their chops over it and the fact it could actually carry these heavier campers (makes you wonder how many 1 tons are overloaded going down the road, doesn't it?!). What did you have the 3000 Bigfoot on before you got the F450? Assume you got the 4.30s as well?

Happy trails...

Hey diesel_dan,

I had a 2006 Silverado 3500 DRW Duramax,6 speed Allison, extended cab with 3.73's, and it carried the Bigfoot fairly good. The Duramax had the edge on power and torque, but the F-450 beats it in every other area. With the 19.5" tires and larger brakes, I fell much more confident with the braking performance which is really important when you carry a camper this heavy. I can definetly feel an improvement with the ride, handling and turning radius. I no longer need airbags and there is almost no side-to-side sway when trucks pass me on the interstate. Overall, the F-450 feels much better and I don't feel like I am on the edge of it's limits. BTW, I do have the 4.30's.

Is that a 3000 series Bigfoot I see in your signature?
