STROKER IN MY 302?

In order to get more towing and passing power out of my '93 5.0L EFI, I've decided that maybe a stroker kit would be my best bet. (Bump it up to 347 or so) What is a safe maximum oversize for that engine? (If I do it at all). Any potential computer problems? (not going to touch the cam)
More stroke... More torque, right?

STROKER IN MY 302?

i just recently read an article on strokin yer smallblock in muscle mustangs and fast fords, and the article in a nutshell says to not go with a 347 if you wish to have the motor for a long time. its great for racing but longevity suffers. they said to stick with a 331 kit for daily drivers. as far as boring the block, .060 over should be within the limits, but have the machine shop sonic test it if you go .060 and definately anything higher. good luck with it and hope this helps

Trouble is, with a .060 over bore, you've
weakened the block, and isn't much good for
any type of performance engine. 0.040 is about
max for a 302/5L block, any more is asking
for a severe failure...BTDTGTLTS...as in, got
30 odd qts of antifreeze in the oil...

STROKER IN MY 302?

I'm confused on the longevity issue. A 351 has the same bore, just a longer stroke so piston ring wear should not be a problem. The crank a rod bearings would see the same number of revolutions, just more load. Where would the increased wear come from? Is the rod angke so different that it is causing a problem?

Just curious,

I think the problem would be that to go to a 347, you'd have to over bore to .060, which weakens the cylander walls. As I understand it.

from the way i understand it, to get the stroke needed on a 302(which has a shorter deck than a 351 keep in mind), the rod gets at such an extremem angle at the top that it creates more wear on the bores. anyway, thought that might help...ill look for the article again.

The 347 is a .030" overbore and a 3.400 in stroke on the crank. I can't remember the rod length. I would think it is a shorter rod.
