o/d light blinking
I saw a post describing exactly my problem posted in april by seismojones but didn't say what the cure was.
I have a 2001 ford ranger 4.0 4x4 with overdrive. About a month ago the o/d off light would sometimes blink on and off. When I would take off in drive the first shift would jerk into gear. Now it does it all the time. I can take off in 2nd and then get a little speed and shift to drive and its ok. Could it be a relay or solinoid or something like that.

When was the last time you replaced your tranny fluid? That is supposed to be done every 30 - 50 K at least. Crud builds up and causes a drop in pressure, which can damage components. The old fluid gets thicker and doesn't flow properly. The code is definitely telling you there is a major issue. Never ever ignore a blinking dash light.

If you look at where the shift cable connects to the lever on the transmisson, the TRS is located directly behind the lever. You have to first remove the shift cable from the lever and then remove the lever from the tranny in order to gain access to the TRS.
Make sure:
1. to disconnect the battery before you do the repair.
2. the transmssion is in nuetral before you start. (Block the wheels and engage the e-brake!)
3. that the new TRS is installed in the same position and angle as the old one.
