Crooked emblem.

I was washing my new truck today and I noticed that the tailgate emblem is a few degrees crooked. I even asked a neighbor if she noticed it and she said yes, but only after I pointed it out to her.

I'd like to straighten it out but my understanding is there are registration pins on the emblem and holes in the tailgate that are supposed to line things up. If that is true then maybe the pins have a few degrees of slop to them?

I'd hate to pull off the emblem for no reason. I don't need to change it but I have some free time and I like things to be neat. I don't even care if there is an emblem there or not but since there are holes there it would look stupid without the emblem.

One nice thing I noticed today is my bed is centered. My last two Fords had beds that were offset about 3/8 to 1/2 inch towards the passenger side.

Anyways, I guess my question is:

Are there a few degrees of slop to the pins that I can work with if I pull the emblem off and try to reattach it?

Yes the holes are big enough to make a small adjustment.

One obsevation I made on several trucks. The fender badges were installed to accomodate the factory rake. When you install a leveling kit the fender badges are no longer level.

Will I be able to reuse the factory adhesive tape or do I need to use something else?

I finally got the courage to pull the emblem off today. It looks like the installer at the factory must have broke the right registration pin because there is no way the pin was lined up with the hole. I was very careful to take the emblem off carefully and made sure I didn't break the pin.

The rubberized-glue-crap they use is very hard to remove. I ended up using Goof Off, Simple Green and a small plastic spoon. It took a while. A heat gun did not help much.

I'll have the new emblem Friday. It cost about $20 at the dealer.

Too bad they don't just sell a rubberized-glue-crap kit.

Even better would be if they didn't bother with the registration pin holes. Then you could just pull off the emblem and leave it off. Everyone knows what kind of truck it is.

Are the registration pins placed the same for the fender emblems as for the tailgate emblem?

Maybe I'll "upgrade" my emblem, if they are.
