12 in a 1984

I just built my 460 in my 84 F250. Before, without the camper, I got about 10 mpg in town and with it went down to about 6 mpg. Now with the camper, I get about 12 on the highway and 10 in town. Havent calculated what I get without it though.

Smile

My 88 F350 2wd crew cab dually gets about 10.5 a little more now that in a 65 mph zone, I AIN'T RACIN' NOBODY!!!!!!!!, I am hard pressed to get much over 55. I just smile and wave as they pass by. My mechanic installed Flowmaster dual exhaust, & is going to put an MSD ignition, new coil, wiring harness,& a K & N filter. says he has a 460 truck he drives [ 1995 or newer I believe] he did the upgrades to, and gets 14.9 empty, and 14.5 towing. He didn't say mine would get that, but says it will improve my mpg's. Bob.

For those who do not know, I bought an 88 f250 x-cab 7.3 diesel w/ a banks turbo[Hence my name]. Owned it for 5 yrs. Back early this year it started $100.00 me broke. I traded it in for my f350. got a good deal, although I believe I repaired every thing wrong on the f250, but, when you lose all confidence in your truck, I felt I had no choice but to make a move with it. No regreats.

I've got a '94 F350 crew 2wd bone stock/w 213,000 miles on it . It gets 8.5 around town & maaaaybe 12 or 12.5 on the highway, so you're doin' pretty good, I think.

Is there something I can do to help it. Oh yeah whats your guy's opinion on taking out the catalytic converter to make it little louder maybe help milage i dunno Thanks guys
I would get some expert advice before taking the cat off. Sometimes the loss of back pressure screws with the computer. I took the cat off of my wifes T-Bird and the mileage went down.

My mileage on my 77 460 actually went up a couple of miles per gallon when I installed oversize S/S valves and did a port and polish job on the heads. Not bad when you consider I was only getting 8 to 10.

I get about 6mpg towing, 8 in the city and 10 highway.

Under absolutely best conditions, driving 45mh without stoplights, I get 11.5mpg. That's keeping it at 2200 rpms or so. Of course these conditions never exist.

I think its pretty tough to get get an accurate reading with these 460's. My family has got 8 differnt vehciles, and i drive everyone of them, and out of all the vehicles, my trucks gas mileage is the worse. When i drive the other vehciles, whether you go slow, or slam the gas, the milegae stays the same, in my truck if i drive like a grandpa, I get 10mph, if i slam the gas and pass every car i c, which i do, i get 6-8, its plain and simple, and u cant look to get better gas mileage when ur driviing around a one ton and a 460 motor. U just got to get use to it, and incorporate it into ur life. I plan to always set aside $100-150 a week for gas, and if i do that responibily, I never have to worry or think about being inefficient, but it deff does suck!

My 88 F250 4x4 SC, 161Kmiles, gets 9mpg.

9 in town...
9 on the highway...
9 empty...
9 loaded...
9 uphill...
9 downhill... of course we don't really have "hills" here.

It does drop to 7 pulling my camper though!

460s are thirsty, thirsty beasts and that's all there is to it.
I think you're doing fine with yours.

I had to laugh at this one. My wife is constantly reminding me that we really don't need the air conditioning on. I have to remind her that we are not in her T-Bird. The T-Bird 20mpg w/air on 22mpg w/o air on. The truck "10 to 12mpg no matter whats on."

The only things you can do is open up your exhaust and intake, and have a nice tune to your engine. That will give you your best MPG. I have all new plugs, wires, true dual, and cold air intake, but i drive like a maniac, cant help it this truck is badass, but if i drive normally i get 10 easily.

I did a engine swap in my 78 F150 (a 351M to a 460(carberated)) both engine are big gas eaters, but I have 33" tires with 3.55 gears and driving normal a lot of people told me I will get 8-10mpg, but I did the swap for more power, cuz you know theres not replacement for displacement...
