installing an 8 track player...
My truck is already decked out with **** carpet, figured the next step was installing an 8 Track player right above the CB... My plan is to remove the ash tray and install the player in the cavity where the tray was (its a 95 F-150)... Anybody ever heard, or done this before? It would actually surprise me if you had... Was thinking I could use the wiring that went to the ciggarette lighter and use it to power the 8 track player, sound right to you? Was also thinking I'd probably have to install a second set of speakers, or can I share speakers with the stock radio? The stock radio does have to stay put, just simply because I do need a digital tuner, and I still use the cassette player... What do you all think?

Are you even going to be able to find any 8 tracks that will play? I would think the tape would have deteriorated by now to the point where they will tear as soon as you try to play them.
As far as doing this itself it should be possible. I personally would probably put in a double throw switch between the ignition on power wire and both radios, so you could switch back and forth between the two. That way only one would be on at a time and you could use the same speakers.

Your right, a lot of 8 track cartridges do deteriorate, especially the rubber spool that holds the tape, and the foil adhesive that keeps the tape on the track...
If you look around online there are still lots of die hard fans who know how to get around these problems, I'm hoping I can get around them too, I used to repair a lot of cassette tapes, I'm hoping they'll be similar...
I'm trying to re-create the "**** van" look in my truck....

Well, best of luck to ya. Post some pictures. I still remember back in high school when I was driving my dads old 79 Bronco. It had an eight track player in it, then I had an 8 track to cassette adapter, then used a cassette to Headphone jack adapter so I could plug in a portable CD player. It was a little rediculous but it worked. Boy did I have a lot of fun driving aroudn in that old beast.
