aldin

Perhaps I oversimplified in an attempt to explain the problem in what is essentially a lay forum.
Additionally, I am not an expert on polymerization chemisty, as previously stated, so I bow to your expertise you have stated the point better than I.

No problem Phydeaux. You're doing a good job of explaining things, but the dilution proposal should help prevent oxidation/polymerization, just not as well as treating it with hydrogen, as you suggested.

Enough heat from any source can cause polymerization to accelerate.

Not sure what effect the UV would have, I know that some research has shown that exposure to sunlight will cause BD to oxidize and polymerize at faster than normal rate.

I saw a paper that recommended storing in a glass lined metal tank with nitrogen in the head space, if long term storage is necessary.

Just trying to get as much info as possible about this new crop.If it will produce as good or better than canola, I will try some test plots.

according to what I have read it costs less to grow than canola. That should offset any cost to hydrogenate the oil.
