6.4 vs 6.7 vs 6.6 shootout

Alrighty, i stumbled upon this comparison, by reading it, its not at all favored in any way, which i like, i truly believe the results, and find them to have been pretty well matched.

Now, Im not a troll hehe, i know i have 1 post, I own a 2007 6.0, and love it to death, but was just curious on the 3.

Now, one thing i didnt like, was for Ford, when they did there results the damn thing was in regeneration mode, and even they admit it cost them about 1.5 seconds, i wish they would have redone the test.....

Also, the ford weighs about 1000 more Lb's then the rest.... which why i love fords, they are well built and stout trucks.

f'450 Lovers .... well this write up will stroke your ego's in the test results, its the best truck for towing they've ever sat in.... You fellas that own one truly have one hell of a truck!!

Hope you guys enjoy read up as much as I did, its cool to see.

It's all what you want. That SFA isn't free - it weighs something. You pay for it at the pump and performance - but is a very valid consideration when buying a truck. The newer GM frames are also heavier then the 'classic' so I don't know what the actual diff is in a 1 ton from GM to Ford. I'm at 7650 in a 3/4 D/A. How does that compare to F250 PSD?

Boo Dura-crap. My '97 weighs in at 8200lbs with fuel, driver and tool box. Bottom line is that ford tows better and works better then a duracrap packin chebby could ever imagine. Chevy has a quick truck, great but it cant haul, tow, last like a ford, IMO.

My 03 D/A with 144k did alright towing and hauling by me - had to have some tailgate hinges replaced though :-). Then again my 97 7.3 PSD did well too.

Nice to see the 6.4 is running well as compared to the 6.0

Maybe stick to some facts and folks might actually put some validity into you comments cowboy.

I did somewhat better then that with my 03 and an Edge chip. My 08 D/A with a PPE tuner is seeing similiar to my 03 - 17-18mpg at 72mph - 20+mpg at 55-60mph and 14-16mpg in town. 11-13mpg pulling 11k depending on speed wind etc. That's calc'd all before regen which happens on avg. about every 500 miles depending on how much I get on'er. If I had 1/2 a set I'd remove the DPF and exhaust. But after talking with my service manager (who is also a personal friend) he said there would be a strong possiblity of the warranty being voided as of right now. He said it's kinda of a wait and see what happens in regards to exhaust modifications. It's 1 thing to remove programming and 'over-look' any tell-tale signs of that. But to have a whole new exhaust would be another story - it's not like you can put that back to stock.

You weren't hear me say too many bad things about the 7.3 - still in the family with close to 200k on'er

I test drove my 2nd 6.4l and actually took it home for the night. It's back at the dealer now, I'm waiting on them to call me to see how bad they want to sell it. Anyhow, I have a 2004 6.0L and had 1 problem - egr valve that was replaced under warranty. I'm a little concerned after hearing all the horror stories about fuel economy. Before everyone jumps my case about buy a truck for a truck, buy a car for fuel economy - this is my everyday vehicle. I put 23,000 miles a year on this thing, if it gets 14 ave. where my 6.0L gets 17 ave. that is a huge diff. That's another tank of gas a month or $900/year. AND what about towing, I have a 13,000 lbs boat - with my 6.0L I get b/w 9 and 10 mpg - is this 6.4 going to get 6-9?

Not if you don't get low gears. My 450 with 4.88's gets 8 or better pulling 18-20k.

Talking

Cads03: If all you will be towing is 13,000, don't make the same mistake as some folks. You can easily tow that much with a 350 with 4:10 gears. The fuel mileage will be better than a 450 with lower gears. You might also consider that these new trucks get 10,000 miles for each oil change (5,000 if used primarily for towing), so you might factor in that you will save some money on oil to help offset an increase in fuel use.

FYI, I have a 08 6.4 350 drw 4x4 longbed with 4:30 gears and about 5,000 miles and get 8 to 9 towing about the same weight as you (last trip was 13,400 lbs). I do not drive much in town but have of late been getting 13 to 14 mpg.
I enjoy the 4:30 gears in the mountains but could get by with 4:10, at least until I buy that bigger trailer.

I had an 02 3500 duramax. I like the duramax, other than blowing a set of injectors it ran great, however my F250 tows everything better than the 3500 (dually). Handles the weight better, much more stable, stops better.

I agree, i have a friend that has an 07 dura-max, his truck will out pull my truck at the base of baker grade in CA. It's a 20+ mile grade at a 6%. My trailer is 12,400 and his is 11,200 but i always pass him at about the 8th mile of the pull. He starts strong but goes limp. My truck pulls hard from start to finish, trust me it burns him up.

Are you saying that your jacked-up F250 V10 with big tires, that slamming more gears, lighter truck and smaller brakes is more stable and then a heavier dually, lower to the ground, with a D/A?

I would have never guessed that.

You know what the problem is? I can go to the Chevy forum or Dodge forum and find another fella that's beating his buddies Ford up a grade as well. But since this is a Ford forum - your that guy. It all depends on setup, driver, gearing, speed, etc...

Although I'd have to bet both trucks were running some pretty high egt's mid-way into the run so it wouldn't surprise me that something like that would happen.
