Hi,
I posted in the bodywork forum and one member (Roger Dowty) said that I incorrectly used the term "Highboy" in my signature.
Here is what he said:
fastmover...just an fyi on your sig...'highboys' are limited to '73-'77 f250 4x4...only first half of '77. And a 80 something year-old cars of that name. Seems that everyone uses the highboy name but it's referenced to a particular frame and suspension design of those particular years.
So, am I using the name incorrectly or can I officially be part of the Highboy club?
Thanks

Hey Fastmover, Ford folk around here refer to any 67 to 77 F250 4x4 as a highboy. If somebody refers to a 77 the usual question is "How many driveshafts?". If the answer is 3 it's a highboy.
High Boy is a nick-name, it was never used by Ford.
Fastmover: The Standard Catalog(s) of American Cars 1805-1942 & 1945-1975 doesn't list a car called a High Boy; Highboy; Hiboy; or Hyboy. It does list a Hoppenstand. How'd you like to say you drive one a those.
Warthog5: I'm past 60

I think you can call it a highboy, like numberdummy said, ford never called it that, so it really is up to interpretation. Everyone knows what your talking about anyway. If a '73 with a divorced T-case, and narrow frame can be called a highboy, why not a '70? Only difference, is there is no "lowboy" bumpside
The term "highboy" only refered to 3/4 ton 4x4 trucks. Late 77-79 Fords were not known as "highboys" because Ford changed the leaf springs, front differential, and replaced the divorced transfer case with one that bolted up to the tranny via an adapter. this done, they actually sat lower then the 61-66, 67 -72, & 73-early 77 models. any pre 77 3/4 ton 4x4 ford is a "highboy"
Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
From what I have read in a popular 4X4 magazine that I can't find now, "highboy" was used to refer to all of the above mainly in the 67-77 model years. A "highboy" also had rear cab mounts outside the frame.
I have a 1968 F250 4x4 (highboy) mine came from the factory with 8 19.5 tires
