Do I need a camber kit for an alignment on stock truck?

Folks,

I am new to the forum but not to Fords. I am on my 4th Ford truck, and even have a 1958 Ford tractor.

I understand if I raise or lower the truck I may need a camber kit, but why when I went to have my stock truck aligned they want to install camber kits?

Is it to make their work easier, or bad design by Ford?

Camber kits are made to help bring stuburn vehicles into allgnment. "Yes", you may shurely need one if you change ride heights, but that doesn't mean your stocker couldn't benifit from a kit as well if it's going past the stock perimeters of adjustment.

Wendell,

Would it be an indication of additional problems rather then adding this kit?

I wouldn't think so and even if there were other problems, a good tire shop should catch it and inform you. What year is your ranger by the way?

Check out this link: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...amber-kit.html for a discussion and picture of camber bushings in a '97.

Plain ol' wear in the front end may require the use of a camber bushing with more degrees of adjustment. I had to put new camber bushings in my '97 because the front springs have sagged enough that the original bushing no longer has enough adjustment in it to bring the alignment back into specs. When I put new springs in, I expect I'll have to change the bushings again.

If you have the same bushings in yours as I do in mine, they're a whopping $12 at Napa. Be very careful with what line of BS the tire store might be trying to sell you. Mine wanted to charge me $150 to install two camber bushings that took me 20 minutes to do in my driveway.

Smile Dealer ok'ed the truck

I decided to take it to the dealer, cost me $40 for them to tell me that the alignment was ok. Better then the $260 at the muffler shop

The mechanic at the dealer mentioned that the mechanics at the muffler shop I took it to work on parts commision. So of course they want to sell me parts.

The new tires are on and what a difference!

The kid at the warehouse store where I bought the tires tried to tell me that I need shocks. First it was an alignment then shocks, like they will do anything to void a tire warrenty.
