Carpenter Wasps - how to destroy for good?

I came out of my shop yesterday, saw a red thing dancing around near my head, it landed on my face - and stung me right under my right eye...

Thus began World War Three in the quaint little town of Drummonds (unbeknownst to the rest of the populace).

I have hit them with everything from bug spray to heavy duty degreaser. Tried to drown them all, devised a method of chopping them up with a high speed electric cooling fan (only thing stopping me from deploying the weapon is that I can't find the essential component), mounted an electric bug killer in their primary camp location, sprayed all of the above in the interior of the space they are trying to invade, have taken them on in single combat (the slap/stomp is a martial arts maneuver that must be carried out with absolute precision), and have considered area bombardment with leftover fireworks...

I wonder still what a serious firecracker on the end of a stick might do to a group of the enemy in the evening...

There must be a deterrent that lasts a long time.

I WANT IT!

Have you used either/carb cleaner? Wait until nighttime and drown the suckers. I used that method before.

Last one I saw went from fire engine red to bright blue candy apple metal flake in two quick squeezes...

It was the only spray can handy at the moment.

I think I've pretty well got rid of them, they don't like all the fumes and commotion now that I've mostly got the shop straightened up and have things going on out there. I about flooded the place with exhaust smoke earlier today.

A bug spray called Seven will kill most anything if you use enough concentration. Mix it up in a sprayer and fill the holes up with it.
