Fuel filters (Russ)

I ordered the filters from the link you had, but they aren't the Racor ones. They are made by Luberfiner and don't have the outer Aquabloc sleave. Not the same as in the picture in the ad.
http://www.dieselfiltersonline.com/L4604f-Luber-Finer-L-4604f-Ford-6-0-Liter-Turbo-Diesel-Fuel-Water-Seperator-Filters-Pick-Up-Excursion-L4604f.aspx
I did find another filter wheich is the actual Motorcraft ones for $3.00 more at this link.
http://www.dieselfiltersonline.com/Fd-4604-Motorcraft-Fd4604-Ford-6-0-Liter-Turbo-Diesel-Fuel-Water-Seperator-Filters-Pick-Up-Excursion-Fd-4604.aspx

Here is a pic of what I received. I am wondering if I should try them or throw them out and try and get the Racor ones again. I know from my trucking days Luberfiner used to make good filters, but that was quite a while back.

May not hurt, but I wouldn't use 'em. Racors are obtainable for a reasonable cost.

Can't understand why folks take a chance on othr than OEM. Don't get me wrong, No way I'd pay dealer prices for Racors in a Motorcraft box. Fram oil filters from Pep boys on sale (Racors) and Racors fuel filters online or from your local IH dealer. Look around. There are deals on OEM Racors several places.

Take Care

The first time that I changed my fuel filters it was a saturday so I went to my local NAPA store. 82 bucks later I found out that the filters that I got did not have the aquasock on the small filter, like the one that I took out. I emailed NAPA asking why, since their website and the store both showed the filter with the sock on their computer monitor. I decided to run them since they were already installed, but I will change them sooner.

What the heck? Don't use those filters! I would call them and exchange those filters ASAP:

Diesefiltersonline.com
National Fleet Parts, INC.
P.O. box 591
Clifton, NJ 07012
United States
866.574.1119
Fax: 973.316.1238
http://www.dieselfiltersonline.com

Here's a 'cut-n-paste' of what I ordered and received from them:

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=5 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top align=left>1</TD><TD vAlign=top align=left>FD-4604</TD><TD vAlign=top align=left>[FD-4604] - Motorcraft FD4604- Ford 6.0 Liter Turbo Diesel Fuel/Water Seperator Filters: Pick Up & Excursion

That's the correct set of fuel filters with the Aquabloc.

</TD><TD vAlign=top align=right>$49.95</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

The small fuel filter next to the oil filter housing does not have the Aquabloc 'sleeve', only the larger frame mounted filter does.

Super08,

Return them and get the OEM racor filters with the Auqa Block fabric. This fabric prevents any water from getting by the filter and into the injectors. It takes a very small amount of water to ruin an injector do to the high pressures they operate at. It is just not worth the risk.

Another vote here for not using them. Any water would head straight to the injectors.

Just got home from work, and yes I'll replace them. I had a bad feeling about it and you just re-affirmed my inner feelings. Thanks all...

NAPA's are made by WIX. I priced them and they were 35 bucks more then the link from this page.

In my gallery are pics of what the OEM/Racor fuel filters should look like.

Using anything else is a risk... and since Racor made filters can be found at a resonable cost... why chance it.

WIX used to sell OEM/Racor oil filters and got away from them (cheap SOB's)!!

WIX makes a "will-fit" fuel filter that is NOT OEM/Racor spec'd for more money than Racor made ones at the Int'l dealer (cheap SOB's)!!

WIX now sells a "will-fit" external tranny filter (pictured as OEM on their site) but what you get is a pleated filter and note/piece of paper stating that it is equivalant to the toilet paper looking filter Ford uses (not)... again cheap SOB's!!!

Not sure what it is with WIX.... but every filter that WIX makes for the 6.0L is not OEM spec'd... and can be easily shown why not... I have lost 100% faith in this brand of filter and will not use it every again for any application.... if they can and will short-change me on 6.0L filters.... I can only imagine what else they are short-changing me on????

I agree with "Kepler4" don't use'm, I've been buying mine @ DieselFiltersOnline.com

1 FD-4604 [FD-4604] - Motorcraft FD4604- Ford 6.0 Liter Turbo Diesel Fuel/Water Seperator Filters: Pick Up & Excursion.

Notice it's NOT L4604f but, "FD-4604" which is Motorcraft.

I would like to apologize to Doug, 'Super08', for providing the wrong link to the fuel filters at Diesel Filters online. I clicked on the wrong filter and then Doug ended up ordering from the link which I had provided. My bad all the way.

It's been corrected in the original thread thanks to Tim, 'Admin'.

Yes. The Primary won't block water and the secondary one I used broke the stem inside the filter bowl. I had to have a set in a pinch and got pinched. Stay with the correct filters.

I have a business contact that obtained a set of Purolator fuel filters to install in a 2003 6.0L PSD for $100.00. I told him most likely the main filter does not have the aqua bloc and that he could get the correct filters from an IH dealer for less than $40.00.
