6.4 Report Card
I haven't been out here in awhile, but thought some of you would be interrested in hearing that I have not had one problem with the 6.4 diesel in over 17,000 miles, not one. I thought the mileage would be a little better (14/16) but I just can't seem to go 70mph in a 70mph. I try but I just can't do it.

Every issue the 6.0 had was addressed with the 6.4. 16 mm head bolts instead of 14, rocker arms separate from the head bolts, diesel oxidation catalyst that dries the exhaust before it gets to the egr valve, twin egr coolers, that have sensors monitoring efficiency of each, electronic operated vgt instead of oil operated, the actuator for the vgt cycles full travel each time you initially turn on the key to insure the vanes aren't stuck, redesigned vanes to prevent sticking, fuel coolers, ease of replacing air filter, etc.

EGR Valve design and strategy is much better than the original. Oils and fuels are much better than available when the '03 / '04s came out. Soot is not quite as big an issue as it was then. EGR Coolers are much more efficient as well.
I still think EGR Valves and diesels are not meant to be married but, until something better comes along they are stuck with each other.
