new guy here needs some quick advice

Well I got a 89 F-150 4x4 that didnt come with a tranny, transfer case or axels. I recently came across an 87 f-150 4x4 for parts. Only thing I think they had different trannys c6 and 4eod? 87 has the 3 speed and 89 had overdrive.

What would it take to convert the 89? Should I just go find another parts truck? Will the transfer case work if I get the other tranny and im guessing I will need other axels.

How hard is it to sell parts on here so I can offset the cost of what I have to buy?

Thanks for any help.

should be just about plug and play the 89 should be AODE trans these trucks are the same body style not sure if the engine is MAF or speed density but axles transfer case and tranny should fit

Same axles same tranny and same t-case should allbolt up just right.Only issue you might have would be driveshaft...unless they are the same truck except for the transmissions.I don't believe they started MAF until the early 90's...I might get corrected on that but........anyways, same frontend same rear same t-case and the tranny should work great.....you'll need the comp for the other truck if the E4OD is what you're going to be using...it's computer controlled....the C6 isn't.....it's all mechanical so it should be just plug n play like Linemo said....

Opps said axels meant to say driveshafts. Also im puttin a C6 into the 89 which had the overdrive tranny. How about the sacrifice in mileage? How much worse is it without overdrive? So C6 swap will work no problem just a bolt in?
Thats good to know if I opt to just use that drivetrain.

Thanks

I have the C6 in my 88. At 100KM/Hr with 35"x12.5" R15, (Stock Gearing) the rpms are at about 2800, so in my case, it kinda sux a bit more gas w/o the OD But the C6 IS built like a bombshell. I hear it is pretty popular in drag racing.

Depends upon the gearing, if it's over 3.08 and you plan to drive at 70mph+ on the hwy then it'll suck fuel like there's no tomorrow. If you have 3:55 or taller gears I'd look for an OD tranny.

You may need a C6 specific tranny cross member or mount.
