Takes Mercon V...DO NOT SUBSTITUTE REGULAR MERCON....you'll regret it.....

Changing the fluid on an '07 already? Heck, mine only has 5k miles!

You may already know this, and if so, forget about it.

Your truck already comes equipped with a 4-pass tranny cooler(9-pass if you have the towing package), and shouuld be enough for light towing. If you do not have the towing package, Ford says you can tow up to 5,000 lbs. If you have the towing package, it can be above 5,000, but that depends on your engine and axle combination.

If you need a bigger cooler, I'd run the plumbing through the factory hoses going to the factory cooler, not pulling them off the radiator.

Just my opinion here.....

Thanks I saw the small cooler in front, and I did not get the towing package, wish I would have now. But my trany temps around 200 pulling my boat which is around 6,000 lbs give or take. So I was putting this bigger cooler on to try and lower the temps.

Didn't mean to give you the runaround there...just looked at the Ford service manual...

You need a quick disconnect tool that will fit them...you should be able to pick one up at any decent auto parts store...I'd suggest NAPA or Advance auto parts. Resembles the fuel line tool referenced on other posts regarding changing the fuel filter.

Once you get that tool, should be fairly easy.

No thanks for all the help. So the little thing in front of the radiator is the cooler. Wow it sure is small, I will do what you said and take the lines off that one and put on the new one, I wonder if it would hurt to run three of them. The total lbs of my boat and trailer is 5,370 lbs. I guess next time I wont listen to the sales person about what can pull what. The 4.6 is ok just not all there in pulling, I had to install an Edge and it helped a lot. Again thanks for all the help this site is great.

Will Ford sell you the larger cooler? It should just replace the smaller one, with the same connections.

I'm sure it would cost 3-4 times as much, he's probably best off with a cheaper, larger aftermarket unit.
