67 vs. 72 8 ft bed
Just a quick question. Is a 67 8 ft bed a bolt on to a 72 F250? I know there are differences in doors etc between 67 and 68-72. I have a 72 Camper Special with the extra fuel tank and heavy duty springs. Someone mentioned sometime back, the crossmembers underneath on the beds are different in the later trucks for the springs or fuel tank, anybody know the specifics or problems associated with putting the 67 bed on the 72 Camper Special? I know the rear marker lights are different? Thanks

In 73 it became an entirely different frame and totally different bed. Nothing in common save the Ford name. Now, having said that, I have seen a 73 bed on an earlier truck chassis. Kinda makes me wonder what was modified to make it work...
72 model bed is like the 68 with side reflector/marker lights. 67 went out the door before the "requirement" of side lights.

Jonas,
A point of clarification, beyond your correct reply about 68-72 beds being the same.
A 73-79 frame is not entirely different frame from a 65-72. In fact it's the exact same frame from the rear cab mounts forward. Engine bays are nearly identical. both Front suspensions interchange, steering boxes swap bolt for bolt, you can take the front discs off a 73-79 & bolt them on a 65-72, all on a model for model basis, pretty much & that's only true with 4X2's but not 4X4's.
The only place the dimensions are different is where it splays out 1.5" on both rear frame rails in the CA behind the cab. Thus the 73-79 has a wider rear end housing & axles. But you can bolt a 65 up bed on one, or vice-a-versa. I know that because I have a 66 bed on a 79 F-150 SWB and a 65-72 chassis are the same.
I am not saying beds are same thru 79. I agree beds are same from 68-72, but 65 thru 72 will all interchange bolt hole for bolt hole.
And with a little fudging plus 6 new holes a 65-72 will bolt on a 73 to 79 or a 73-79 can be bolted on a 65-72, although I don't know why anybody would do the last one.
