Theres only like 3 people on here(that I have seen post) who get better than 15mpg w/ a 6.4, but you haven't even broke into double digits..........
I commend you for your honesty............

That is mostly empty. I towed my empty trailer (10K lbs) for 30 miles on the first tank and about 140 miles on the fifth tank. The rest is normal everyday driving like I would drive my car, 70% city and 30% freeway. My '04 V10 F250 got 11.5 mpg doing the same type of driving but 6-8 towing @ 70mph. This truck is much more fun to drive and gets tons of looks! Some mornings I uncover it and drive it to work "just because".

'08 F450, Crew Cab dually, 4.88, auto, 4WD. My only disappointment with the truck thus far is the mileage. I'm averaging around 10 mpg empty. Towing a 28K load (36K combined gross) put me down around 7.5, towing a 24K load (32K combined gross) had me around 8.
I usually drive between 65 and 70mph. If I drove around 55 I think that I'd get around 11 - 12 mpg empty.
My '05 F350 Crew Cab dually 4.11 rear end ratio 4WD averages around 13.5 combined city and highway. I can get up to 16.5 mpg with it on the highway at 55.
My advice - get the 4.88's only if you routinely pull in excess of 20K lbs. Anything less than that, get a higher rear end ratio for better mileage.

I have about 2000 miles on mine, getting 12mpg around town. Won't pull my car trailer until Oct. but hope to get 9mpg with it loaded. I have the 4.88s 4x4 DRW and same as Big Sky's thoughts on it, felt this was the rig for the next bigger trailer not the one I have now.
I don't drive the truck that fast so the 4.88s are not an issue. I have a Corvette for my speed fix, the F-450's there to haul it from A to B.
A 4.56 gear if available, may have been my second choice knowing what I know now. I'd like to have my crusing rpm closer to 2000 vs at 2500 I get with the 4.88s.

Gear Vendors would be a cheaper solution.
