Yeah.. 1979 was the peak of the oil embargo, Detroit lowered the compression, installed milder cams and redicuously restrictive exhaust systems in an attempt to improve fuel milage. All they really did was make the land yacht cars of the day painfully slow and lumbering. The upside is you can almost double an engines output with a decent exhaust, cam and carb upgrade.
