TPS kickin my ***

Hey Guys,

I received my Dorman TPS today (699-200). Looks right but isn't. When you try to mount it, you have to preload the mechanism to get the pedal tab in the slot. Unfortunately, this means that the truck is all confused. It will run but shifts way early when and if it moves. It often won't move. Then the check engine light comes on and the OD light flashes. Is the only way to fix the TPS (which is the code that keeps showing up) to buy it from Ford or find it in the junkyard? I don't want to pay the $400 that Ford wants for the assembly but this truck has not functioned right since I bought it. Any other good (cheaper) ideas?

I believe I have read on here before that there is a TPS that will work on your truck that is for a different year model that is cheaper........

Keep searching the forums or wait a little and someone will chime in that has more experience with this, but I do remember this being discussed before and I think there is a different TPS you can buy thats cheaper, but wait for someone who knows for sure to chime in.......

Tim,

It is a 97 but that assembly is $400. I think I am going to go back to autozone and get their TPS for $30 and try to modify it so that I can bolt it in without preloading it which is the problem with any of the TPS's I am getting. I am just trying to avoid the $400 bill for the pedal assembly.

Well it still alot of money but here is a 97 assembly for $220. I picked one up a few weeks ago for $75 used. Might keep your eyes open on ebay. Also The diesel stop has a very good classified section. Thats where I got mine.

Maybe you need the 699-201 from Dorman?

Thanks for looking guys.

bdrummonds, That is the thread I used to get the part from Dorman, Thanks
tjbeggs I will keep looking on ebay and the diesel stop but may just pay the $220
roentgeep The 699-201 is for the newer trucks. Do you think it would work?

I went back to autozone and got the $30 one which is the same as the Dorman product. I am going to try to modify it to see if I can make it work. I have requests out to the junkyards too. Such a small part causing such a big problem.

It looks like they have the assembly but with no returns, it is scary if it doesn't work. It's a shame someone doesn't sell the correct TPS for the truck. I am trying to leave in the morning to tow the fiver to the Grand Canyon to get out of the 116 degree heat tomorrow. But it makes me nervous being out on the highway without total confidence in the truck. I will let you know if the mod works tonight.

Rick the one at Diesel site is more than the powerstroke shop. They want 263 for 96-97 and 640 for the 94-95 one. The price changes witht he drop down menu.

BTW, Rick do you know of anybody looking for an older diesel cargo van. 93 E-350 with a 7.3 IDI. If so I got one for sale. I tell you about it next time I stop over.

Tried to modify the autozone one but no dice. It just jammed and held the engine open. I cleaned up the stock switches and it will have to do for this trip. I will search the Utah junkyards while I am up there and the diesel sites when I get back unless TJ will part with his pedal assembly. Thanks for the help guys.

Well I'll tell ya what. If you look around locally and can't find one I will consider selling the one I have to you. In the mean time I will contact the guy I bought mine from and see if he has anymore. I just hope that after if I sell you mine murphy doesn't apy me a visit and have my pedal go out! But let me know if you can't find one and we can work something out!
