6637

After a couple of hours of modification to the AFE airbox, the NAPA 6637 is installed on the truck! I may be dillusional, but I do think it has reduced the turbo lag just a bit. It seems to get on it quicker off the rolling start.

That is EXACTLY what it looks like, and EXACTLY how I approached it as well. I took a bunch off the rear corner like yours! It is a tight fit, but it just manages to sqeeze into that space!!

Do you have a blue truck and Walmart batteries too?

After I got it all stuffed in there I was thinking that if I cut a little off the 4in metal tube the filter attaches to, that it might be a little easier to get it in & out. So I think when I do my CCV mod real soon I'll take an in or so off the pipe.

Thanks Tim. I was actually thinking of shortening mine as well. I think that the problem is only at the end of the intake in which it has that raised rim on it, preventing the tube from seating fully into the filter. I was thinking about taking the rim off and see if it will seat further into the filter inlet.

I went to NAPA yesterday to get the stuff I need to install the 6637. I wasn't sure on the elbow length and angle. I have the following part numbers:

NAPA Air Filter 6637 (obviously)
Exhaust Elbow 41632 (is this 30-degrees or 45-degrees? What is the length?) This would have to be ordered, so I told them to wait until I did some additional checking with you guys here.
Constant Torque Clamps (don't have part numbers, but how many do I need? 2?)
Does the filter just lay along the side or is it secured somehow?

Am I forgetting anything? I may have a question on the FPR shim, but I'm still searching on that. I don't want to use the tire pressure gauge, but I can't find a fuel pressure gauge that can be used with on a diesel.

Thanks for the info.

It says on NAPA's site that it's 45* and 12in long:

My filter lays on the cold air box. I would tend to think it's better for a 6637 to be supported so it doesn't bounce up and down, or it might tear at the rubber connector due to fatigue.

I would think that the NAPA pipe would indeed work well. I too have an airbox, so as far as support is concerned I would think that you could easily fabricate a metal strap, such as the Tymar kit has to mount somewhere for support.

ID MooseMan. I just went to my local muffler shop, told them what I was doing and walked out with a 2 foot 45 degree on one end, 30 degree on the other peice of scrap 4" mandrel bent tube that they had and the guy just gave it to me. I find that people are always willing to help out a DIY auto modifier. I have more then enough left over to do the CCV mod. Cost = $0.00.

I am a newbie checking out this mod for the first time. Im putting the parts together and I am going to try a HVAC duct strap (like a big hose clamp) to see if I can use it to create a support.
