I'm planning on replacing most of my intake on my '84 351W.
I was looking at aluminum Ford Racing manifolds and they say no EGR. My rig is a '84 E150 just under 200K. I'm pretty sure it has the EGR, its all stock.
Would getting an aluminum intake manifold be beneficial or am I wasting my money? The van is just a tow rig and is driven only when needed. It has a 4 barrell carb in need of replacing or servicing. When I do the manifold I plan on doing a open air cleaner, carb spacer and of course new gaskets where needed.
Just looked at that on Summit Racing. Still says no EGR. I'm just don't want to have to take off the EGR system, it would be a lot of work I think. Thanks for the info.
leave it as is just get a better carb like an edlebrock 600
you have to be careful in that van I have an 86 with a 351W performer intake,1" spacer and I can just get an air cleaner on it. With a high rise you might have some clearance problems.....
Your probally right. I saw a 460 van with a edlebrock manifold and it was really close. I read somewhere that an aluminum intake manifold helps the engine out, I dunno. Besides I don't want to spend a whole lot on the van so keeping the stock manifold is better. Thanks guys for the input.
I'm with Hemieater, no more than you use it and being in a van, leave the stock intake in place and get a new carb. Not hard to remove the EGR, just entails either blocking off the valve on the back of the spacer or replacing the whole spacer, you just have to make sure the intake port is covered by the new spacer. I've seen lots of the valve simply removed and a cover made from 1/8"-1/4" steel to block off the two holes.

Yeah, I really don't want to drop $200 in it and not be able to see it, as with the vans the engines sit so into the body. I think I'll leave the EGR. Thanks guys for the input.
I wouldn't use an open element air cleaner either. They allow hot air to be pulled in from the engine compartment. The stock one will pull cooler air in from the core support. Cooler air means more power.

Thats true. I never really thought about that. Being a van there would be a lot of hot air where the air element is.
