I have the factory steel wheels with the chromed plastic outserts to make them appear to be real chrome wheels. My question is has anyone ever removed the plastic chrome pieces? I want to color match the body moulding and the steelies with a satin black paint but don't want to but another set of steels if I can work with these.

I did that to a pair of rims that had the plastic chrome covers. all i did was paint them silver and then covered them with reflective paint and they turned out very nice.
Theres a difference in the wheelskins that are installed at the dealer over the styled steel wheel, and the factory 'chrome clad' wheel. The chrome cladding from the factory will be a PITA to remove, as there is tons of glue and epoxy and all kinds of other stuff holding it together.
