Question Exterior sun visor for 51

Sorry for bringing this subject up again but I just did a search going back almost four years and no one has seemed to come up with the right source or answer. I want to put a exterior sun visor on the 51 for practical reasons not looks. Last year I called up McMillen in Canada, talked to him and he sent me info on what he handles. What he has for this is fiberglass which screws to the cab. Even though it is made for the truck I would rather have one with brackets in case I decide after it is installed I just don't like it and then I would not have the holes to contend with. Maybe this time we will get lucky! ! ! !

External sunvisors were once very popular, but with the advent of tinted glass and wrap around windshields, the visors soon went the way of the dinosaur.

Look in Hemmings Motor News for the visors, new, used and repro. hemmings.com.

If you are over 6 feet tall, you'll also need another accessory from the era: a traffic light viewer. These mounted on either the dash or the steering wheel.

I believe that one from the same era cars (Ford) will fit. Look on eBay and swap meets for Fulton Sun Visors.

I don't think the passenger car external accessory sunvisors will work on trucks, here's why.

1949/51 Ford passenger cars had a two piece windshield. The trucks have a one piece windshield. The passenger cars accessory sunvisors have a bracket in the middle of the visor that clamps to the center windshield mldg on the cars. Trucks don't need a bracket, because they have one piece windshields. The Ford passenger cars windshield is also much wider than the trucks. Been there, done that...I bought and sold these original sunvisors at swap meets for over 30 + years.

Just a bump up to get some more lookers. Just a trivial side note. Last night I saw the 1979 movie Wanda Nevada with Peter Fonda and Brooke Schields, not my favorite actors, but they had a close up a 54 Pontiac covertible with a sun visor and
even I could see the brackets holding it on. Looked really sharp.
Sorry for the nostalgia.

The trucks also have the middle bracket, but it's screwed into the cab roof. Look at the G-mans gallery for the brackets.

Here’s a Fulton visor I installed took a while but this is what it looks like, I drilled holes in the cab and got a bracket for the center along with the sides other than that it wasn’t hard at all but you will need extra hands

I know this is an old thread but I thought you all might like to see my 50s aftermarket Comet Sky Shield that I cut down to fit my 51 f1. I made the middle and side brackets out of stainless, aluminum , and steel for the center bracket.
