Question Rear shock absorber mounting stud on 1948 F2

I am needing to replace the rear shock absorber mounting studs (#18193) on a 1948 F2. It looks like the stud presses on to the spring seat. I would like to replace the stud on the vehicle without disassembling the springs.

Any ideas on how I can remove the old stud and install a new one? If I drill it out will I be able to hammer a new stud in or will I need a press? Has any body done this and who did you purchase the stud from
Thanks
Frank

I would replace the whole bracket, a little torch heat and the U bolts from the axle mount should loosen up nicely.
I think this is alot easier doing it this way than trying to work underneath a truck (if you can find this used part).

Fomoko1 - I really didn't want to remove the bracket, I am ready to get the frame sand blasted as is.. except for the shock mount studs. But yes it is tough to work on that part from under the truck.

Flushed Up - Thanks for the offer. I'll PMed you.

Thanks Frank

I hear you on not wanting to remove the bracket but I don`t know what else to suggest.....Except to try drilling it out and welding a proper sized bolt in, it depends on what you have on hand and available to use. Once you have it out you can take it to a welding shop for repairs. I doubt trying to hammer in a replacement will work out.

I was able to replace that stud by removing the bracket, clamping it in a vice and hammering the stud out with a punch. I was than able to use the vice to press in the new one.

You probably could carefully hammer in the new one under the truck but it won't be easy.....

52merc - Thanks for the help. Do you remember who you got the stud from?

I bought one from Sacramento Vintage for my F1. I'd think the F2 is the same here.

The one I got 7 years ago didn't fit quite right. The shank was slightly undersized so I re-used the old one.

Sorry, this doesn't help much. Just what I've found out there. Bet you could find something local - NAPA, Suspension shop, etc.......
