Hello; I belong to the IDI forum but my Dad has a 99 F350 Power Stroke with bad batteries. We tried to start it today using my F250 but it just does'nt seem to turn fast enough to start. My question is,does a Power Stroke need to have A certain amount of power in the batteries to start because of all the electronics or does it have to turn over fast enough to get the oil pressure up to fire the injectors. We were going to take it to Advance to get new batteries but I guess I'll have to pull them and get new ones my self. Thanks in advance for any help .
I have had to jump both IDIs and Powerstrokes when I had my IDI....
With it running and 2 sets of jumper cables it was not enough... I found that it took either 2 vehicles, or my truck and a fully charged battery to get it going....
Try putting the jumper cables on for 10-20 mins while the donor vehicle keeps the RPM's up. That way you charge the dead batts a bit before trying to start it. The PSD needs a lot of juice to fire the injectors.
Single set of cables on the drivers side battery adn let her charge for 15 or 20 minutes as has been previousley stated. I have had to jump mine several times after the wife left the key in the run position?all night....with the motor not running. I still cant figure out how she does that but ...but I usually just use the minivan and let her charge, even on 0 degree mornings she has fired up after 20 or so minutes.
Batteries were absolutley shot. They were the original factory batteries from 1999. Two new Advance Platinum's and it starts like a PSD should. Thanks to all for the help.

I think he got more than his money's worth out of those batteries.

Seriously, I have two 65's sitting in the yard. I changed out mine with Optima Redtops because of vibration leakage thru the covers. I didn't want to tow West in the summer heat like that. My truck does alot of bouncing around. The Optima are awesome but do cost more. This was my 2nd battery changeout on an 02.
