Whatever people say, whatever people think, inline engine style period is built tougher than any V type engine. I have a F150 with a 300 - 6 and have driven a F350 dually dump truck with a 300 - 6 plenty of times. Which i might add that truck has about 225,000 on it and still goes with a FULL bed load of concrete we tear out on jobs we do. Also the 5.0 302 FI engines have a few more problems than the straight sixes like detination on #7 & 8 cylinders. The 302 will just be a car engine thats all its worth to me. I deal with mainly 460s n stuff but I will choose the Inline six anyday for pulling, especially with the 4bbl carb setup.

You're right, of course, for the reasons mentioned above. My question is how relevent is it.....
Any modern V6, and hell, for that matter even the not-so-modern 4.2, can last well past 200,000 miles in a half ton. Many who have that much endurance on a 4.2 have worked their truck, time after time. Why would Ford spend the money to lengthen the engine bay to squeeze an inline engine under the hood?
Add to that development costs on the new I6 motor, and you're spending lots more than Ford would want to on a base power plant on a base truck.
Better engine? Of course it is. But is it worth it?
But..then again...if you have room for the I6....you'd have room for the V10....

I think the switch to an I6 would be solely for more torque to anyone hauling. A modernized I6 will put out just as much power as a V6, but so much more torque... But as you said, the question is whether Ford thinks it's worth the time and resources to modernize one or re-develope one.
or it will be just a dog just like the 4.2 v6 is underpowered and slow and not great on gas but ford will promote its a diesel...for petes sake just make a bad ass diesel please
I have never rode in V6 F150, I am just going by what people have said about the truck they have with them.
Well, hitting the gas pedal is kind of like stepping on a soggy marshmallow. . We had one for a work truck, all loaded down with tools and stuff. It would get you around in town, but on the highway, you had to really give it the berrys to avoid getting run over.
Hmmmm, my 300 could really use an aluminum head!
I swear there is nothing better than putting my truck in granny low and letting it wind out a little bit. Its probably my favorite sound in the world.

Back in the early 80's, the 300-six had about ten more ft-lbs than the 302. This was with a single barrel carb (as opposed to 2v on the 302) and restrictive manifolds that looked like friggin logs. Put on a 4bbl and EFI manifolds and that engine will pull anything. Classic-inlines.net is developing an aluminum head, and later on will release a turbo kit for the 4.9.
Fellers,I hate to tell ya,BUT Ford Austraila is CLOSING the engine plant that makes the inline engines in 2010.NO MORE inline engines.Forgot this.Check out the thread over at www.fordsix.com titled:Ford Austraila---Engine Plant Closing,in the Gasoline Alley section.

Heck, I'd take more than just the Inline motors Ford Australia produces. Those Focus's look really nice for a compact, and the Falcon XR8 with the 6spd kicks A$$, as well as the Ute version. Also a 4-door Ranger with a turbo diesel would be nice.

Stop it, Stop it! I can't take it anymore!!
The Falcon Ute is something that could eat a mustang cobra for breakfast, and still tow a decent sized trailer (possibly both at the same time).
The Ranger is avalable with TWO seperate turbo diesel engines and can tow around 7000lbs worth of trailer (you can bet they push them harder)!!!!
(sigh) Why does our selection suck on this continent???
(end of rant, checks blood pressure)
