tranny cooler?

Should I get a tranny cooler if I'm going to tow sometimes with this truck? Maybe I should take a pic of underneath to get y'all's opinions of what is there. Is this something that I could do? I'm fairly mechanical.

Your truck should have a cooler in front of the AC condensor. You should replace that one with a larger one. It's a good thing to do for your trannys sake. I use this one but anything bigger is going to help make it last longer.

You might want to get some gages too. Tranny temp and EGT are a good start for towing. Most have guys here have them along with a boost gage.

Definitely replace the stock unit with something more substantial. I've got a Tru Cool 4590 that does all I need.

There are several write ups floating around if you do a search on it.

Smile You're already starting aren't you? Mod, mod, mod.

You just got that thing. You're not going to modify it already are you? LOL.LOL. We just can't help ourseslves can we? Congrats on the new truck. You are going to love it!!!! Yes get a larger cooler, get the Sonnax kit and a new filter and 4 gallons of tranny fluid and service and upgrade it. Firms up the shift and also helps it to last longer because it reduces the slippage that occurs when it shifts.

I feel pretty stupid but exactly where is it in relation to the condensor? And the condensor is located exactly where? Bear with me guys!

The stock tranny cooler is located in the upper left hand side directly behind the grill (if looking at the front of the truck) so it would be by the passenger side front head light. It has 2 lines runing into it, one comes from the lower radiator (built in cooler) and the other should hook up directly to a return line going back to the trans.

O.K. I don't feel so stupid I was looking at and thought that was probably it. Is it a pretty easy change to a bigger one? Should I do that when I flush/change coolant?

What about this tranny cooler?

click above link and go to the bottom of all pics and I think I have a pic of the tranny cooler, right? Also, one of the pics is a grase fitting? How many of those do I have? I have not dealt with those in awhile

Yep, that's your tranny cooler.

The grille comes off pretty easy so you can get to it.

The aftermarket is nice, you can install it anywhere cause it has it's own fan.

BTW: You need to get better battery cable before winter or you'll have a hard time getting her going.

Yes I definitely need to replace battery cables. Where should I get those and how much will I pay?

Not sure on cables. Dealer I would imagine but Autozone or NAPA may have them. Too late here or I would call for ya. If the dealer is the only place let me know and I can get them at emp. cost or better yet make a big list of what you want from dealer And I will get for ya and you meet me 1/2 way. Remember I am going on vacation tomorrow and won't be able to help for at least a week unless you come to Knoxville with the list and I will call him and let him know you are getting the stuff for me. Just a thought.

BTW it looks like you are on your way but dump that filter box they are just in the way and ugly.

Go to your local battery store and have them make you a set with the new shiny copper ends. Ford will rip ya off if you try and buy them from 'em. Battery store is cheaper. Good luck

Yeah, Neal I need a factory Dana 60 front end, uhhh you think you could get a deal and purchase it for me? Feel free to put it on my tab, lol
