Finally got my heads back

From the Machine Shop that is... They Decked the heads .010 and hottanked them. I got a Rather frustrated phone call from em. They couldnt get the paint off. Ended up using a Scraper!! LOL So for the next time somebody questions the durability of base/clear on a motor i Present these:

You just used straight basecoat clear on your motor w/o any heat additive? I always wondered how that would hold up. I almost painted mine w/ some corvette yellow I had left over but the heat additive was another 50 bucks so 5 dollar can of ford blue i went.

The guys at my local body shop swear by regular Sikkens base/clear for engines.

Congrats on the heads. Porting looks nice! I've too color matched engines with just automotive base/clear paint with very good results. To strip old paint I use something called MRC or metering roller cleaner found in the printing industry. It'll strip paint like crazy off metal no matter what type of paint is on there. It will melt plastic but not harm rubber as it's a rubber roller cleaner for printing presses. Your local graphics suppy house should carry it. Wear gloves and use in a well ventalated area. Strong stuff.

Those heads do look nice. Do you have a close-up of the exhaust ports for us to look at?

For paint, I always used the "Engine Enamel" spray bomb stuff in the appropriate color. But those look nice! They're not blue but nice.
