so which engine would you choose?

dont want this turning into a gas vs diesel, just outta what's rumored so far; what would you choose/what would you be more likely to buy?

Keep in mind the kind of price ranges these options will have before you vote

While I am definitely interested in the diesel, considering the probable cost and the fact that I do a lot of short hop driving I would probably wind up going with the small V8. Although that could change depending on what the diesels specs turn out to be.

I use and abuse Haul 20 ft car trailer my trucks and the sm v8 work just fine in a 1/2 ton. If I could get a manual trans I'd really be happy. . These are trucks not race cars. If I need a heavy hauller I break out the 1 ton

But the diesel would be nice if they build it for MPG and not 500 HP fuel sucker.

Even though the 6.2 Boss V8 would be the most fun, I'd get the diesel for sure. An F150 with a turbo, smoke stacks and a lift would look and sound really good.

I'd actually still take a 4.6, it has been around the longest, although it doesn't put out the most power, its probably the most reliable of them all (at least for now)...

I agree 100% but I have a feeling that a 500 HP fuel sucker is what it's going to wind up being, hence my answering that I would probably get the small V8. A small economical diesel with a manual trans would be one sweet ride IMHO.

Definitely the diesel for me. I drive about 100 miles round trip to work and the extra MPG would be great. I also tow a 5500lb travel trailer, so the extra torque would be sweet. Combine the two, and I would get the same fuel economy towing as I get empty today. Yeah buddy!!

i don't know, i voted for the 6.2L but i will see when they have it already done with both a 6.2L and a 4.4L diesel in it, the diesel would have to get at least 18 mpg city for me to get it, but then again it could be fast too, i know the diesel should be faster than the 5.4L we have now cause i also heard they are dropping some weight in the new F-150

Probably the 6.2L BOSS. I have been please with the 5.4L on my 01 so I'm sure a VVT 6.2L should have gobs of towing torque.

Had a 2000 F350 CC SRW 7.3 with a Diablo chip that had 62,000 miles and was well pleased (sold it to my son-in-law). Got an '07 SCrew with 5.4, 3.73 axle and have been very disappointed with both performance and mileage. And yes I know the 3.73 is not great for mileage but my old F350 would run circles around this 5.4.

That being said I would prefer the 6.2 Boss (or whatever it will be called) if it does have some performance. FMC will probably have an engine management system that will allow it to get decent mileage when cruising due to federal requirements. Would probably consider the 4.4 diesel if the 6.2 doesn't have the performance. May just put a Rousecharger on the one I have. I just like to make sure that I can get around vehicles when needed on the two lane roads in this area. Even at 60 you still have a need for performance from time to time.

I'm signing on to a diesel if/when they come out. If I ever got another half ton it would be a commuter at best, perhaps an occasional boat tower, so fuel mileage there would be the key.

If the diesel wouldn't cost $5k for the option I'd love it.

If it would I'd most likely get the 5.4L if they'd do a few upgrades to it, or if they wouldn't, I'd just stick with the 04-07 model.

The 6.2L boss would be very fun, but the most I'd do is take a couple test drives with some off the dealer lot.
