Actually I'm planning to buy a 2009 f-250 CC diesel for heavy pulling. Now that rumors of the 2009 f 150 with the opt. 6.2, I will buy it also. I don't need the f 150 for heavy pulling. I will rather for performance truck.

6.2 Boss. Diesels are nice and make insane power with just alittle work but I've just never been a big fan of them.

Just To Let Yall Know. The 4.0, 4.2, 4.6 And 5.4 Are Done. No Mas. Ford Has A New V6, 2 New V8's And The 4.4.

I Know The Bigger V8 Is A 5.8l.
I Think The Small On Is A 4.8-5.2. Somewhere Around There
And The V6 Is Around A 3.4l

They Are The New "boss" Lineup

I Found This Out Straight From An Instructor At My School That Is A Senior Master Tech And Has Been With Ford For Over 20 Years.

dang...really?

i like the 4.6, i'm sure the 5.4 isn't so bad now that the bugs are worked out of it...it'll never get its chance to shine in a pickup.

Give me the diesel.

I want mileage. GM got us really good mileage with a really crappy diesel until 97 or so. I'm talking mid 20's. There's no reason they can't build us such a truck now. They just won't. I don't care about speed. If it will keep up with my curren't v6/5spd I'd be happy. If I want to tow something bigger than a car, I'll get a bigger truck. I use the bed of my half ton every single day, but I don't ever look around feeling like I need a 3/4 ton, or for that matter more power.

I know some guys here don't think it's possible, but I want to see that elusive 30 mpg (at least the 2wd) full size pickup. I would trade my new 07 in on it tomorrow if it got better than 25 mpg.

I chose the diesel option.

I purchased a 2004 Crew Cab PSD in June 2004 because a diesel engine is not available in the F150.

I dont need the F250 but I wanted the diesel engine, soooo.......I bought the F250.

Now, of course, you couldn't get me to buy an F150 with a diesel engine unless my F250 wears out or is horribly wrecked in an accident.

Maybe someday I'll get the F150 diesel.

I've driven lots of F-150's with the triton 5.4L and i was kind of surprised as to how week it is compared to the chevy vortec, to me they should really build the V8 to give it some more power before they even think about making the diesel because right now the twin turbo diesel isnt doing so great. ALOT of recalls on it so far, putting a diesel in the F-150 right now wouldnt be such a great idea!

For an every day driver Diesel will cost more, fuel for the disel will cost more. Yet fuel mileage will be better. So You need to sit down and understand the mileage between both and the mileage you drive and do a cost analysis taking into account the above costs and see how long it would take to break even comparing both. If the brake even is beyond your normal ownership then I would say diesel would not be advanageous.

Now if you need the power of a diesel for towing etc.. then the cost is not an issue.

One other thing based on my last bit of info the F150 is slated for a 4.4 diesel. So the power and mileage may be a bit mute.

The new 6 speed tranmission is due out for 2008/9 this should wake the truck up quit a bit.

For my uses a 4.6 is plenty, I don't tow much of anything. The only hauling I ever do is a few sheets of ply and some 2x4s for projects. I might get the odd item that's a little heavy, or softener salt, or mulch. If I need gravel or heavy machinery I have it delivered. It's more cost effective for me.

A lot of things have changed in the world of diesel, or should I say clean diesel now, just over the past 5 years changes have been major to say the least. The 6.0 was plagued with problems largely do to emmision controls that are strapped all over it.

The 6.4 is even more complicated than the 6.0. The reason the 7.3 was such a legend in dependability was that it was simple by comparison to the 6.0 and real simple when compared to the 6.4. I am sure the 6.0 would have been just as reliable as the 7.3 had it not had to meet the 2003 emmision regulations the fed passed, then again the 7.3 would have never been replaced if not for the new 2003 emmisions standards. The 6.0 was a bandaid in way to bridge the gap to 6.4L and the 2007 standards.

The new 6.4 was brought about for the same reasons, to meet the even more extream 2007 emmisions that has a yet a another part kicking in come 2010. I hope that logevity still proves to be good after all this new high tech high heat technolegy has been in effect and on the road for a few years. I have had several 7.3s and now have several 6.0s in my company fleet and at home in the garage.

The guys I have talked with that have the new 6.4 say its quiet and they like that feature, but they are not very fuel efficent. Much the same as my milage went down when I went from the 7.3 to the 6.0, it would seem that the same is happening with the 6.4.

Right now the Dodge seems to be haning in there with its mpg numbers but thats largely do to the fact there new 2010 engine is backed with a 6 speed auto and not the old 4 speed that backed the 5.9. I have herd Ford is in the process of adding a 6th gear to there automatic diesel transmissions do out next year. That should get the MPG back to the level of the 6.0s anyway. I am a firm bealever had we had a 6 speed auto behind those old 7.3s we would have been well into the 20mpg range.

I am excited about 1/2 ton diesel's don't get me wrong, am just not going to jump out say that all the old rules and benifits of diesel are still with us on these new engines. Think about this. The reason the new SD nose was extended and the hood raised a bit was to accomidate the 7 radiators that the new high tech 6.4 is using to try and keep everything running cool. All that heat and were talking a diesel. One of the big reasons diesel engines use to last longer than gas engines, was because they ran at cooler temps than the gas engines. I am not sure thats the case at all now.

I don't know about where you are from but over the past 3 months Diesel here has been a lot sheaper than regular unleaded, about 30 days ago I was paying 70 cents per gallon less for diesel than for gas. Now its been runing about 20-30 cents a gallon cheaper than gas for the past 30 days. Yesterday gas was 3.09 here and Diesel was 2.79
