depends on what you want to do with it... if youre just using it as is it really doesnt matter- just avoid the ones with d2ve heads, theyll ping on pump gas. they all basically have the same power output. if youre stroking it then youll want a later block (d9te casting). since youre throwing it into a pickup, if you get one from a car youll have to change the exhaust manifolds and oil pan... if you get one from a truck then it will bolt right in (with motor mount adapters)

460 with an automatic transmission?

D9TE-6015-AB engine casting number uses flexplate = D9TZ-6375-A. 1979/89.

D1VE-6015-AB engine casting number uses flexplate = D1SZ-6375-A 1968/79 429/460

Both these above engines were used in 1979.

not weighted... if it were a d9te block then it would be weighted- thats when they changed from internal balance to external balance

Thumbs up 460 swap

You are making a good choice. Way more torque, same fuel mileage, more fun! I have done two of these swaps. One into a 79 F150 , one into a 65 F100. When you get a donor engine, buy everything, brackets, ect ! If you can get a 73 to 75. These are internally balanced.

actually any 429/460 from 1968-1978 is internal balance, in 1979 they went to external balance until they were dropped in 1997. if you get one from a truck/van then you have the proper exhaust manifolds, rear sump oil pan, pickup, and pump already, and the alt/power steering brackets. if you get one from a car then youll need to get headers/truck exhaust manifolds, the oil pan kit, pump, and brackets.
